MEETING MINUTES FROM ORLANDO, FLORIDA
MAY 24, 1999
The May SEUFPC meeting was held on Monday, the 24th in Orlando, Fl. This location was selected due to the North American No-Dig 99’ Conference being held May 23-26. The idea was that it should help with the attendance. (Didn’t happen!) Only 5 members showed up, so the meeting went quickly.
At 8:00 am Danny Barrett opened the meeting. Introductions were not necessary.
Danny read the minutes from the December 1998 meeting. Minutes from the March conference call were not available. Minutes were accepted. List of Attendees

 | We discussed "Loss of Use" recovery and the efforts in place by many member companies. |
| Terry Zackman gave a report on the May SOCS meeting in Gulf Shores, AL. |
| The team discussed how to improve attendance. We welcome suggestions from anyone that may have some ideas. |
| We discussed the five other regional committees like the SEUFPC and will try to find out how active they are. |
| For anyone interested, Dan Simpson found an interesting article in the May 24th USA Today about excavation damages. Can be found on the website: www.usatoday.com |
| All companies present report that their YTD damages are up significantly from 1998. We all agreed that we need to do some root cause analysis. |
| Bob Miller said that BellSouth has hired off duty law enforcement officials in Florida to stop at job sites and ask for One-Call tickets. This appears to be very effective. In the event that they have a "bad actor" working in a location, they can page the officer and have him drop by the site. Only warnings are being issued at this time, but it seems to be an excellent education tool. |
| Terry Zackman reports that the Sunshine State One Call of Florida now has 3 damage prevention educators in the state. They are trying to get code enforcement in various counties, prioritizing with the largest ticket volume counties first. (No other One Call Center reports were available.) |
